School Water, Sanitation, And Hygiene (WASH)
Program By Maharani Lakshmibai Foundation
Access To Clean Water, Safe Sanitation, And Hygiene (Wash) Is A Basic Human Right, Yet Millions Of Schoolchildren In India Face Daily Challenges Due To The Lack Of These Essential Facilities. Recognising The Deep Impact Of Poor Wash Infrastructure On Education, Especially For Girls, The Maharani Lakshmibai Foundation (MLBF) Has Taken Bold Steps To Implement Sustainable Wash Programs In Rural And Underserved Schools.
Through Its Wash Initiative, MLBF Installs Gender-sensitive Toilet Facilities, Provides Access To Clean Drinking Water, And Promotes Hygiene Awareness Among Students And Teachers. The Foundation Focuses On Inclusive Education, Where Girls Can Attend School Without Fear Or Discomfort, Particularly During Menstruation. According to Unicef, Proper Wash Facilities In Schools Can Increase girls' Attendance By Up To 11% — A Statistic That Drives MLBF's Mission.
Each Intervention Begins With Community Consultation And School Assessments, Ensuring The Solutions Are Tailored To The Students’ Needs. The Foundation Also Trains School Management Committees And Student Hygiene Clubs, Fostering Responsibility And Long-term Maintenance.
A Highlight Of The Program Is The Introduction Of “hygiene Champions” — Student Leaders Who Educate Peers On Handwashing, Menstrual Health, And Clean Habits. These Champions Become Catalysts Of Change In Their Communities.
By Addressing Wash At The Grassroots Level, The Maharani Lakshmibai Foundation Is Not Only Improving Health And School Attendance But Also Restoring Dignity And Opportunity To Every Child, Especially Young Girls. This Initiative Stands As A Powerful Reminder That Empowering Students With Basic Needs Today Builds Resilient, Educated Citizens For Tomorrow.
